As economic globalization and international trade continue to develop, international financial business features prominently in the world market. Multinational financial activities are being conducted everyday. Systems of international banking, multinational securities offering and cross-boundary M&A (Mergers and Acquisition) have been established. With growing international financial communication and cooperation, financial English translation becomes increasingly important.Financial English is a branch of specialized English. Generally, we can regard financial English as the English language adopted in the process of financial operation which can be found in banking areas, the security sectors, and currency exchange business. Financial English also can be seen in daily financial activities and in various financial correspondences, documents, announcements, annual reports, financial circulars, prospectus, etc.As an important component of financial English, financial terminology is used frequently from everyday communication to various financial paperwork. Thus, we have to value financial terminology highly if we expect to study finance or engage in financial market. It is imperative for us to conduct reasonable and accurate translation of financial terminology. In spite of the fact that many translators devote to their translation and considerable achievements have been made, studies on translation of financial terminology are still far from satisfactory. Much attention has been paid to lexical and semantic features of financial terminology and methods of translation of financial terminology, yet studies of the application of applying theories to the translation of financial terminology are rare. Due to its own specialty and complexity, this thesis aims to apply Skopos Theory to the translation of financial terminology.According to the theoretical framework of Skopos Theory, there is always a skopos or purpose of a certain translational action. The process of the translation is mainly determined by this skopos or purpose. Other rules also have to be followed in the process of translation based on Skopos Theory. In this Thesis, three main rules of Skopos Theory will be discussed, Skopos Rule, Coherence Rule and Fidelity Rule. They stand in hierarchical order. These three rules can be used to standardize financial terminology translation and provide a criterion to assess appropriateness and adequacy of the translation. Under the guidance of rules of Skopos Theory, strategies for translation of financial terminology are illustrated in this thesis.By applying Skopos Theory to the translation of financial terminology, this thesis aims to improve standardization and systematization of financial terminology translation, so as to promote international financial communication and cooperation.
