Based on the Skopos Theory of German functional school, this translation report takes the author’s translation practice-the Circular Coal Yard Reticulated Shell of 2X660 MW Coal-fired Plant Project in Payala,Bangladesh as the research object, and introduces the characteristics of electric power engineering texts. The author has learned the application of Skopos theory in specific cases through the analysis of the characteristics in vocabulary, syntax and text, trying to conclude the practical translation methods. As one of the major cooperation projects for the construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, the construction of the 2X660 MW Coal-fired Plant Project in Payala,Bangladesh is also of great significance to the economic development and cooperation in power construction between China and Bangladesh. There are many written documents for this project, including the translation task-the Construction Management Planning of the Circular Coal Yard Reticulated Shell of 2X660 MW Coal-fired Plant Project in Payala,Bangladesh.Due to cultural differences between China and Bangladesh, translators should have cross-cultural awareness. When translating this project, the author explores and analyzes specific translation methods and techniques not only from vocabulary, syntax, and discourse, but also from the context, culture, and collocation.Furthermore, the author applies skopos theory to the translation process, follows the three rules of Skopos theory, that is,skopos rule, fidelity rule and coherence rule, and analyzes the translation in turn.Under the guidance of Skopos theory, different translation methods and strategies should be used in translating this engineering text for the communication between different language speakers. Therefore it is possible to overcome the obstacles of language and culture, and the translation can finally achieve the purpose of communication. This report is divided into four parts. The first part is the description of the translation task, mainly including the background and the content of the source text,as well as the significance of this translation project;the second part is the translation process, mainly including the preparation before translation, the analysis and modification of the first draft and the second draft, and the analysis and embellishment of the final version;the third part is the case analysis of translation, mainly including translation difficulties and case analysis, the principles and the methods the author used to analyze the translation cases in vocabulary, syntax and discourse under the guidance of Skopos theory. This Chinese engineering text, whose language is plain and objective, usually has a lot of technical terms and uses imperative sentences and non subject sentences more often. As for the compound sentences, the author takes translation in original order as the first choice. However,if the sentence is well arranged with a clear structure and key point, the author will first divide its structure into a few meaning groups, and then rearrange the order of them.As for the clauses and short sentences with many modifiers, the author translates them into English complex sentences through the methods such as infinitive, absolute construction or past participle acting as attributive according to the roles of different compositions including attributive, adverbial and so on.At the same time, the coherence and integrity of sentences shall be kept.As for sentences with no subject, the author finds out the real subject implied in the sentence according to the context. If the exact subject of a sentence cannot be determined or the subject is confusing, the author will translate it into a passive sentence. The fourth part is the summary of translation practice, including the understanding of translation work, relevant thinking on unsolved issues in translation practice,as well as the inspiration and prospects for the future work.
