E-C Translation Research Of Petroleum Technical Texts From The Perspective Of The Text Typology Theory

Under the guidance of Reiss’s Text Typology Theory,this report takes the eighth chapter of An Introduction to Oil and Gas Production,Transport,Refining and Petrochemical Industry as the translation project for translation study.This chapter mainly describes the utility systems of oil and gas production process.The text’s expression is quite precise,concise and logical,and it mainly focuses on the professional knowledge of petroleum technology.Due to the significant differences between the linguistic structures of Chinese and English,combined with the specific language features of petroleum technical texts,the translation work becomes difficult.Therefore,it is very important to analyze the textual and linguistic features of the text,and to select the appropriate translation methods for accurate,precise and easy to understand translation version and make it cater to the Chinese readers’ reading habits.According to Reiss’s text typology theory,this report explores the translation methods for E-C translation of petroleum technical texts by taking a deep analysis of the characteristics of text type and text language,combing with the method of example analysis.Through the deep analysis of the features of the text,the translator find that,from the perspective of text type,the petroleum technical text is informative.Since the readers are professional researchers,they need accurate,precise and concise version.With the strong trend of interdisciplinary and constantly emerging new terms,the work for an accurate and precise translation becomes more and more difficult.The sentences are compact in structure and compressed in information,so sentences should be adjusted in structure and implemented in semantics to make it conform to the expression patterns of Chinese.The results of this report show that the translation should correspond to the professional field and the context.And to achieve the accurate and precise Chinese version,the translation methods of adverse translation,combination,division and amplification could be used to translate the petroleum technical texts.
