A Report On The Translation Of Elements Of Petroleum Geology(Excerpts)

As the communication between China and other countries in the world increasingly gets closer and science,technology make phenomenal progress,technical English has attracted more and more attention as an important tool facilitating exchange among each country.This practice is a report on the translation of an excerpted chapter from the book Elements of Petroleum Geology.The selected chapter is about the physical and chemical properties of petroleum and the methods of petroleum exploration and production.Under the guidance of Peter Newmark’s text typology,the author completed the translation project with the application of different translation strategies and skills.This translation report consists of three chapters.Chapter 1 is task description,including the introduction of the translation background and process;Chapter 2 is process description,consisting of the translation features,strategies and difficult points in technical translation and text typology theory;Chapter 3 is case analysis,including professional terms,phrases translation,and sentence pattern integration and format conversion from the material of petroleum geology;last but not least,the conclusion part summarizes the personal translation experience.The writer has a better command of translation methods and skills through this translation research.The writer selects this topic in hope that it can provide some reference to persons who engage in technical paper translation and study.
