On Agricultural Technical Text Translation Study From The Perspective Of The Text Typology Theory

Guided by Peter Newmark's Text Typology Theory,this thesis takes the E-C translation of the Principles of Nutrient Management and Fertiliser Use as an example and discusses the specific translation methods and techniques in the translation of agricultural sci-tech texts with informative functions.According to Newmark's Text Typology Theory,the texts can be classified into three major types on the basis of the three main language functions:expressive text,informative text and vocative text.Based on different text types,Newmark puts forward two main translation methods:semantic translation and communicative translation.In general,semantic translation is suitable for expressive text and communicative translation is suitable for informative text and vocative text.In the process of translation,the translator should adopt different translation methods on the basis of different text types.The Principles of Nutrient Management and Fertiliser Use belongs to agricultural sci-tech texts,in which agricultural terms,polysemy,abbreviations,passive voice,nominalization and long complex sentences are widely used,with the features of objectivity,accuracy,rigor,logic,etc..Based on Newmark's Text Typology Theory,combined with the features of the selected translation material,it is concluded that the main function of the text is informative function and it belongs to informative text.By studying the function of informative text and two translation methods,communicative translation is chosen as the main translation method.There are five chapters in the thesis.The first chapter introduces the translation material,the study background,purpose and significance and the structure of the thesis.The second chapter is literature review and theoretical framework,which summarizes the literature review related to Text Typology Theory and agricultural sci-tech translation and brief Newmark's Text Typology Theory(including text classification and translation methods).The third chapter analyzes the text features and text type of the selected translation material.Based on the selected translation material and guided by the Text Typology Theory,the fourth chapter discusses the specific translation methods and techniques of agricultural sci-tech text with information function through an analysis of examples.The fifth chapter is conclusion.Based on the above,the translation principle of agricultural sci-tech text is proposed,that is,conveying the information with accuracy,emphasizing on the reader effect of information and preserving the style and structure of the original.They are used as a guide to select different translation methods and techniques,including literal translation,linear translation,division,reverse translation,readjusting word order,etc.,so as to convey information accurately,so that the target readers can achieve the same effect as the original readers as much as possible and to provide references for the translation of agricultural sci-tech texts.
