A Report On The Translation Of Handbook Of Petroleum Product Analysis (Excerpts)

This paper is a translation report about Handbook of the Petroleum Product Analysis(Excerpt)which provides detailed explanations of the necessary standards tests and procedures that are applicable to these products in order to determine the predictability of the behavior.This handbook also introduces the details of the meaning of various test results and how they might be applied to predict product behavior.It will to be an invaluable guide to understanding the methods for analyzing petroleum products.In this report,by the analysis of the characteristics of English for chemical industry,the author explores some difficulties in the translation process on terminologies,complicated sentences,passive voices and reconstructs the logic of the text under the guidance of Reiss' s Text Typology.The translation project consists of four chapters,namely,task description,process description,case analysis and conclusion.The first chapter is a brief introduction of the source text.The second chapter consists of preparations before translation,the translation process and the proofreading and modification of the target text.The third chapter contains some case analysis at the lexical level,syntactic level and textual level.The last chapter is about the experience the author obtains from the translation process,and it is expected to be helpful to other translators' practice in this field.
