| Since the 18 th CPC National Congress,China has emphasized the need to strive to build China into a cyber power.Key technologies and significant sectors are advancing rapidly, including Io T,cloud computing, big data, mobile communications, intelligent manufacturing, and network security.English translations of relevant scientific and technological texts, such as product manuals, news reviews, and popular science books, are becoming increasingly crucial. Therefore, this paper aims to explore effective translation strategies that can be adopted for technology-based informative texts.Chapters 3 and 4 of The 5G Era: A New Engine of Economic Growth were chosen as the study texts under the guidance of Text Typology Theory by Katherina Reiss,a representative theorist of the German function-based school. The technical achievements of 5G,the prospect of its integration with new technologies, and its driving effect on the digital economy are introduced in the source text, featuring a large number of specialized terms, which is consistent with the characteristics of informative text according to Reiss’ s framework.Reiss argued that translation strategies should be determined by the type and function of the text. The function of informative texts is to state facts and information. The translation of an informative text should achieve the accurate and complete transmission of the conceptual content of the source language.Based on this, effective C-E translation strategies for informative texts are analyzed in this paper in terms of accuracy, completeness, conciseness, and readability with selected typical cases,in the hope that this practice will provide some reference and experience for future high-quality translations of informative texts. |
