Objective:Acne vulgaris,a sebaceous hair follicle inflammatory disease commonly occurring in Department of Dermatology,is characterized by facial damage, high occurrence rate, and repeated onset, and it has exerted great impact on the image and psychological status of patients. At present, the mechanism for acne is unknown, but mostly patients consider dietary habits as important inducing factors in the development of acne. However,It is controversial in correlation between dietary habits and onset of acne for many years. The study explores the correlation between diet, daily habits and acne vulgaris, and its relation with TCM syndrome differentiation, and to provide scientific basis for intervening the occurrence and development of acne vulgaris. Methods:A total of 232 patients with acne vulgaris met inclusion criteria in the Department of Dermatology of Jiangsu Hospital of TCM from April 2017 to January 2018 were investigated using case-control method in epidemiology, and questionnaires investigation were performed for these patients and the clinical data was collected for syndrome differentiation of TCM.Out of 232 patients, the healthy people with acne exclusion were collected as control group according to a ratio of 1 to 1 in sex and age.SPSS25.0 statistical software was used for all data analysis after input of collected data in excel,between-group single factors analysis was used for enumeration data with ?2 test, and logistic multivariate regression analysis was applied for the factors with significant differences above, and P value of less than 0.05 was considered to be indicate statistically significance for all analyses. Results:? Out of 232 acne vulgaris cases, there were 91 males(39.2%)and 141 females(60.8%),the ratio of male to female was 1:1.55,and the average age was(24.00±5.19)years.The highest occurrence of the disease was in patients aged 21 to 25 years(40.1%).? There were 75(32.3%)acne patients with grade ?,103(44.4%)with grade ?,44(19,0%)with grade ?,10(4.3%)with grade ?,which showed that the ratios of patients with grade ? and ? were the highest.??2test of single factor analysis showed that significant differences in skin type, pressure, sleep time, whole milk, defatted milk, meat, vegetables, sweet food, spicy food, fried puffing food, creamy food, and fruits were found in two groups(P<0.05);Logistic multivariate regression analysis showed that the oily skin, staying up,frequently drinking of full fat milk and defatted milk, frequently intake of meat and sweet food were the risk factors for acne vulgaris(P<0.05,OR>1),and frequently intake of vegetables and fruits were protective factors for acne vulgaris(P<0.05,OR<1).? The ratios of different syndrome types in acne vulgaris patients in reducing sequence were as follows:90 cases with syndrome of internal accumulation of dampness and hotness(38.8%),followed by 70 with wind-heat in lung meridian(30.2%),27 with liver-qi stagnation(11.6%).23 with imbalance between Chong and Ren meridians(9.9%),and 22 with blood stasis and phlegm coagulation.Severity of acne differed variously with different TCM syndromes. The proportion of less water drinking, regular preference for smoked, barbecued and sweat foods was highest in patients with blood stasis.Besides, the proportion of preference of cream products, red meat, seafood, spicy food, fried puffing food, and milk tea was highest in patients with internal accumulation of dampness and hotness; The proportion of sleeping late and high pressure was the highest in patients with liver-qi stagnation. Conclusion:Diet and life style are closely related with the onset of acne vulgaris,in which oily skin,staying-up late, frequently milk drinking habits(full-fat and non-fat),frequently intake of red meat and sweet food are risk factors, and frequently taking vegetables and fruits are the protective factors. The acne vulgaris patients with TCM syndromes of internal accumulation of dampness and hotness and wind-heat in lung meridian account for most proportion.Unfavorable diet habits accounted for the highest proportion in patients with blood stasis and damp-heat accumulation. Thus, favorable dietary and living habits are as important as drug treatment in the prevention and treatment of acne.
