The world's population explosion and the rapid development of global urbanization has brought opportunities along with challenges to urban construction. The urbanization process has not only increased the speed of the development of productivity, driven regional economic development, but also promoted changes in people's lifestyles. These factors have led to the city's demand for multiple industries which have also further promoted the urbanization process. This development trend has affected the size and planning of China's cities and the functions of buildings. In this case, the high-density trend of city development has become the main direction, and high-rise buildings have also become the medium for maximizing the land value of the city.In the process of centralization of cities,mixed-use high rise buildings can not only solve the problems that high density brought to cities, but also respond to the problem of sustainable development. In the development process of mixed-use high rise buildings,no matter where they are located in,it will have a significant impact on the spatial structure of the city, thereby affecting the user's feeling and their perception of the city. From the cities' aspect, the public space at the bottom of mixed-use high rise buildings is the place that making connections from urban scale to human scale. In this process, the public space in the city exists as a material condition for conversion. Therefore, how to deal with the relationship between mixed-use high rise buildings and the city has also become an important issue. In addition to the "accessibility" in the physical sense, the value of public space can also be seen as a space that can accommodate various social activities of people from different social classes, religious beliefs and races. Therefore,it is most appropriate to use the term "publicness" to describe the accessibility of different meanings of public spaces in society and cities.Only public spaces with publicness can constitute real public in democratic field. The publicness of space refers to the concept embodied in the process of accommodating open and tangible communication among people and promoting the formation of spiritual community.Among the four existing models of evaluating publicness of space, which including situation /safety model, triaxial model,CABE model and star model, star model is the most comprehensive and objective one,so it's selected as the basic model of this paper. There arefive elements of star model, including ownership, control, physical configuration, animation and civility. In the third part of the paper,it further discussed the five elements based on domestic and foreign books and papers, and then analyzed the characteristics of the mixed-use high rise buildings based on the five elements.According to above discussion, the paper revised star model and make it more suitable for the situation of rapid urban sprawl in China and also fit the context of mixed-use high rise buildings. In addition,as star model does not adapt to the evaluation conditions of China's urban development, space syntax is added as an auxiliary method to ensure the feasibility of the evaluation mode. The above theoretical basis and evaluation model modification are applicable to the current situation of the bottom public space of mixed-use high rise buildings in China. It can also provide a certain theoretical basis for future research. Finally, the revised star model is used to investigate and evaluate the bottom public space of each format of Guangzhou Chow Tai Fook Financial Center,Guangzhou International Financial Center and R & F Yingkai Plaza, and it was applied to four main types of formats of mixed-use high rise buildings, including commerce, office, hotel and residence. The results comes out with the characteristics and needs of publicness in bottom public space of each format in mixed-use high rise buildings, and could be used to perfect the research in the field of mixed-use high rise buildings, and also propose the design strategies of bottom public space that meets the urban development laws, adapts to the format's own interests, and meets the daily needs of the citizens, and in total to provide useful experience and suggestions for future urban development.
