Ancestral temples are unique buildings originating from ancient Chinese lineage association.It is the symbol of ruling system which takes kinship tribes as the fundamental unit,as well as the token of the worship for ancestors among Chinese Han population for thousands of years.Guangxi province,south of the five ridges,where the Baiyue ethnic inhabited,witnessed the history of absorbing Han culture,after the inhabitants had been beaten by Qin military at the Xianggui Corridor.The development of ancestral study are the traditional ancestral temples in Quanzhou County,northernmost of temples formed unique features during the culture fusion.The objects of this Guilin City and Guangxi Xianggui Corridor regions.Field research,literature research and component feature classification method are used in combination with historical background,cultural origin,geographical environment and other factors to study the architectural forms of local ancestral temples.The focus is on the eaves gallery which shows the combination of function,technique and art.The objectives of this study are to explore the provincial features and historical evolution patterns of components and decorations of ancestral temples in Quanzhou County and to form history and theories of provincial architecture.The first chapter covers the origin of ancestral temples in Quanzhou County,the significance and study methods,summarizing about the achievements and the development of study on domestic ancestral temple architecture,as well as the development of study on Guangxi ancient architecture.Nowadays,the study on Guangxi Han architecture is still at its early stages.Ancestral temples,as the essence of Chinese folk architecture,are strongly representative as being selected as the following research objects.In the second chapter,after determining the scope of study,geography,climate,historical culture background and migration of Quanzhou County have been explored in details.The development of Chinese lineage association,origin of ancestral temples and the preconditions and the development of ancestral temples in Quanzhou County have been elucidated.The special cultural environment of local minority population and large migration Han population living together are summarized as well as the general features of local ancestral temples.In the third chapter,the most important one,on the basis of exploration of front eaves galleries of ancestral temple halls in Quanzhou County,we have studied the classification of components,general features of the girders,analysis of types and evolution of key components in girders,and classification and characterization of girders.In the fourth chapter,we focus on the research of decoration art in Quanzhou County.Plinth and girder sculptures are chosen to conduct the evolution analysis from both stone and wood sculptures.For the last chapte,put forward the further research of regional architectures in Quanzhou as well as Guangxi.This article concludes the evolution patterns of components of eaves galleries including girders,bracket sets,balance woods and plinths and artistic features of wood and stone sculptures via studying the structure and decoration of eaves galleries of ancestral temples in Quanzhou County.
