A Study On The Analysis Of Eaves And Gallery Space In Chinese Traditional Architecture And Its Application

Eaves and gallery space is a spatial form which is widespread in Chinese traditional architecture. It plays an important role with its unique spatial qualities in the construction group, in addition to basic traffic function, but also as an important semi-outdoor space, indoor and outdoor transitional space. With the development of society and the innovation of architectural design theory, architectural practices present diversified trend. Contemporary architects begin to draw nutrition from traditional Chinese architecture. As a positive space, eaves and gallery space is used more and more in multifaceted architectural practices, but there are also some problems. Therefore, this thesis takes eaves and gallery space in Chinese traditional architecture and its applications in modern and contemporary practices as a research topic, try to explore the multi-possibilities on inheritance and evolution of eaves and gallery ’space of traditional Chinese architecture in modern and contemporary architecture design. The paper consists of six chapters:The first chapter is introduction which introduce the research reason, purpose and significance and research methods.The second chapter determine the scope of the eaves and gallery space in this study,through researching the eaves, gallery and other related concepts, the constitution and spatial characteristics of eaves and gallery space.The third chapter discusses the analytical method of eaves and gallery space in traditional Chinese architecture. The first is classification, to extract three basic types and and summarize its variants. The second is combing the the distribution of eaves and gallery space in the traditional architecture group. Finally, analy eaves and gallery space in cicheng by using this analytical methods and show the new requirements of the traditional architectural space by studing the updating situation.The fourth chapter is to analyze the characteristics of eaves and gallery space from the perspective of the modern theory of space, combined with human behavior and psychology. Try to explore modern design language from the traditional eaves and gallery space and pave the way for the analysis of the inheritance and evolution in modern and contemporary architecture design below.The fifth chapter is to analyze and try to explore the multi-possibilities the inheritance and evolution of eaves and gallery space in modern and contemporary architecture design.
