Beijing royal ancestral temples are materialized carrier of ancient sacrifice culture, especially the royal sacrifice culture. The overall layout of these temples, the construction techniques and artistic characteristics of the temple buildings are the top level of ancient Chinese sacrificial architecture, which embodies perfect unification of philosophy and art. Royal ancestral temples are historical and cultural heritages of the ancient capital, and they have great cultural value, ecological value, economic value and social value. How to better protect and use them has very important practical significance.This paper combines the theory with practice method. On the basis of analysis and collating classification, history and general layout of Beijing royal ancestral temples, author makes a systematic analysis and research about the space layout, architectural shapes, roads and squares, characteristic sketches and plant disposition based on field investigation. Finally some suggestions about protection and utilization are provided combined with the realistic situation of Beijing royal ancestral temples.
