Since Han Dynasty, music and dance carvings have appeared in tomb buildings in Sichuan region.By Ming and Qing Dynasties, tomb buildings gradually shifted from underground to the ground, with more decorative and more obvious intention for people to watch. These large-sized,complex-structured,exquisitely carved tomb buildings have rich carving and decoration themes, including auspicious patterns, flowers, birds, animals, opera figures, secular figures and fairy tales. With the flourishing of opera performances, the carved images of operas have become the most common decorative content in the tombs in this area. These images can even be used as touchstones to test the craftsman’s level and the tomb owner’s financial resources. The popularity of carved images in traditional operas shows the popularity of traditional operas and people’s love for them.Among the stylized images, the creation of folk craftsmen is by no means the same. These seemingly unordered images show the folk nature of carved images and the creativity of artisans. This article discusses how the folk craftsman changed the dynamic stage art to the static sculpture art,and reveals that the imaging of the sculpture image of the local opera is the key to grasp the climax moment of the solidified plot,to highlight the character image with props,to create the original scene of the performance opera with the background, and to provide the key to figure recognition. It is discussed that the craftsman used the banner narration, the complicated story plot, the vertical expression of simple narration and the flexible decoration of the unique characters to form the unique opera image and form characteristics in this region. These images, which are rich in themes, instructive and decorative, are the result of the joint creation of the burials’ building funders and the folk craftsman.Their exquisite degree is also an important factor for people to watch, not only showing the identity of the tomb owner, but also showing the craftsman’s ingenuity.Behind the images are the complex semantics of funeral concepts, folk culture and children’s education in the region. On this basis, this paper discusses the present people’s love and eternal yearning for opera reflected in the carved images of opera,in order to pray for the happiness of the familyand the prosperous artistic concepts and funeral beliefs. The tomb owner’s good wishes are integrated into the construction of the tomb.Opera carving can not only be used as a psychological sustenance for the tomb owner’s appreciation after death, but also be used to teach future generations with opera stories.Family mourning can also dilute sadness to a certain extent.
