Study On The Emergence,Development And Spread Of Qilou Buildings In Nanning,Guangxi

During the Republic of China,Qilou buildings(or arcade-houses)began to spread rapidly from the South of the Five Ridges to the inner mainland,and also emerged in the always poor and backward Guangxi region.A large number of Qilou buildings appeared at the central urban area and the remote villages and towns in Nanning,the capital of the Guangxi.Then,when and why did Nanning Qilou buildings come into being? Did the Qilou buildings at the surrounding villages and towns of Nanning emerge for the same reason as those in the central urban area of Nanning? At the same time,Qilou buildings also appeared in other cities in the same period.In this case,did the emergence of Qilou buildings in Nanning manifest its own properties? In addition,Qilou buildings showed little difference in their forms during this period,but those in Nanning stood out differently from others.Then,what was the difference in the forms of local Qilou buildings in Nanning,and what reasons led to the difference?In order to explore the above problems,the author carries out research on the emergence,development and spread of Nanning Qilou buildings,in order to understand the specific process and characteristics.A probe into these questions will help to develop a more comprehensive understanding of the urbanization process of Nanning in modern times,reflect the political influence of Guangdong area on Guangxi region and the city construction relationship between the two,and embody the development and spread of modern western culture in remote areas of the South of the Five Ridges.The paper serves as the complement to and perfection of related research,and thus is of high academic values and research significance.The author consults the relevant literature,and reviews the historical and social background information,in order to understand the cause and process of the emergence of Nanning Qilou buildings.The author compares the emergence of Qilou buildings in Nanning with that in Wuzhou,Beihai,Guangzhou and other cities in order to explore the characteristics of the emergence and development of Nanning Qilou buildings.Through field investigation,interview,surveying and mapping,the author collects the first-hand and original data related to Nanning Qilou buildings,and then classifies and analyzes their characteristics in forms.Through the research,the author finds out that Nanning Qilou buildings does have their own characteristics,as demonstrated by the fact that the construction of these buildings was government-guided,and their emergence was lagging behind the times.In terms of the emergence process,Nanning Qilou buildings,compared with those in other related cities,possess some shared features and their own characteristics in social background,construction reasons and construction time.The occurrence of Qilou buildings at the surrounding counties is also slightly different from those in the urban area of Nanning in terms of time,motivation and scale.The above features reflect the phenomena of delay and detail distortion during the process of the spread of the Qilou buildings from the main cultural area to the subcultural area.
