Water is an essential substance for living and ecology and it is bound up with people's happy life and steady economic and social development.Zhegnzhou City is faced with rapid economic and social development and water demand increases.But problems in severe water resources pollution and low efficiency of water resources utilization are more and more prominent.There still exists water waste widely.Zhegnzhou City faces unprecedented pressure and challenges in water resources carrying capacity.It must be taken into consideration that what kind of social development water can carry when making overall planning in Zhengzhou City.It is of great importance to evaluate water resources carrying capacity.Previous index system in water resources carrying capacity evaluation is always too complicated,ignoring scientificity of method and correctness of results;Indexes are too general and cannot accurately reflect the connotation of the carrying capacity.The core task of water resources carrying capacity evaluation is the measure the relation between support and pressure,which means that evaluation index system should include pressure indicators and supportive indicators.The essence of the water resources carrying capacity evaluation is to analyze the ability of water resources system to support social and economic system and appropriate degree of two systems.Based on connotation of carrying capacity,this paper selected available water resources and water demand to build index system.By using Method of Balance of Water Supply and Demand to build evaluate model,this paper evaluated water resources carrying capacity of each region in Zhenghzou in current year(2011)and planning years(2020?2030).After reasonable prediction of water use indexes and water supply,current situation of water resources in Zhengzhou city could be obtained;Through objective analysis of the problems existing in water resource utilization,reasonable suggestions in making regional development planning to coordinated to water resources system were and put forward.The results are drawn as follows:(1)Water demand exceeded water supply seriously in 2011 with a shortage of 0.819 billion m3.Water resources was severely overloading and the carrying capacity intensity index was 1.62.Municipal District and Xinzheng City had larger water shortage with intensity indexes of 1.55 and 2.45;There were smaller water shortage in Gongyi City and Dengfeng City and the carrying capacity intensity indexes were 1.65 and 1.24 respectively.Water resources in other regions was severely overloading except that Dengfeng City was mildly overloading and Zhongmu County was moderately overloading.(2)Contradiction between water supply and demand in Zhengzhou City in 2020 and 2030 will be relieved with the enhance of consciousness of water-saving,decrease in life water quota,advance in irrigation technology and increase in industrial water utilization efficiency.Water shortage will decline to 0.157 billion m3 in 2020 and water resources will be mildly overloading with an intensity index of 1.06.Xinmi City and Dengfeng City will have larger water shortage.The carrying capacity intensity indexes will be 1.49 and 1.27 separately,indicating that water resources will be moderately overloading.The carrying capacity intensity indexes in Gongyi City?Xinzheng City and Zhongmu County will be 1.19?1.14 and 1.08 separately,indicating that water resources will be mildly overloading.Municipal District and Xingyang City will basically achieve a balance between water supply and demand with carrying capacity intensity indexes of 0.94 and 0.97 separately.(3)Water shortage will add to 0.232 billion m3 and water resources will be mildly overloading with a carrying capacity intensity index of 1.09.Water demand will grow sharply as a consequence of rapid economic and social development.Besides,affected by mountainous topography and inconvenient use of outside water resources,Xinmi City ? Dengfeng City ? Gongyi City and Xinzheng City will still face severe contradiction between water supply and demand.Xinmi City and Dengfeng City will have larger water shortage with carrying capacity intensity indexes of 1.46 and 1.29,and water resources will be moderately overloading.Water resources in Gongyi City?Xinzheng City?Municipal District and Zhongmu County will be mildly overloading and the carrying capacity intensity indexes will be 1.17?1.13?1.00 and 1.02.Carrying capacity intensity index of Xingyang City will be 0.96 and water supply can basically meet water demand.
