With the continuous development of computer technology, there has been a surplus in computer hardware, which results in a waste of server resources. In this regard, how to improve the rate of utilizing hardware resources, reduce the waste, increase system stability and decrease investment have been remaining as four major research programs. In order to handle these problems, server virtualization technology is introduced. This paper addresses research backgrounds and development status of virtualization technology, and compares the characteristics of several mainstream virtualization technologies.Taking VMware vSphere as an example,we introduce the traditional virtualization architecture and its configuration based on server, storage,Ethernet, and optical storage network in virtualization. Then according to the current server room, the environment conditions,we design a fully redundant cluster topology; On the basis of the real-time requirements of each business platform and hardware constraints,we engage in a reasonable high-availability planning,to maximize the elimination of single point of failure, and in the built-in virtualization environment for the main high-availability technology for the actual test;we also compare changes in physical server resource requirements and availability improvements before and after using virtualization technology;Additionally, the main performance parameters of the physical server such as processor, memory and storage are observed, and stress tests are conducted on the storage devices; Finally, the common problems of resource allocation are analyzed, and subsequently the possible bottlenecks in the system are spotted and the adjustments are made correspondingly. After virtualization technology is applied in the server room, the existing server, storage and other resource utilization rates are greatly increased, and redundant and even dual-active service platforms are achieved. This greatly reduces the workload of maintenance personnel and achieves the expected goal.
