With the rapid development of computer technology and the popularization of information technology, the universities in our country have made a great improvement in information construction and have built lots of service systems, which are convenient to the office of teachers and students. However, there are some deficiencies in universities, information construction, such as the low resource utilization, low concurrency, high management costs and complex backup. By virtualizing the hardware resources, virtualization technology has made it available for multiple virtual machines to run on a physical machine. The operating system can run on the virtual machines and programs on different virtual machines won’t interfere with each other. By using virtualization technology to manage server resources, it is possible to make full use of the hardware resources and improve the application availability and operational efficiency. Besides, it can strengthen the IT infrastructure. Therefore, it is a good choice for universities to use virtualization technology to manage server resources.This paper has designed and implemented a server resource management system (SRMS) which based on the virtualization technology of VMware vSphere under this condition. SRMS is consisted of infrastructure module, resource dynamic management module, service system management module and server performance monitoring module. By managing the data centers, clusters, hosts as well as virtual machines, and with the unified management of the independent, loosely servers as well as the subdivision of server resources, the infrastructure module of SRMS can achieve full utilization of resources. The dynamic resource management module of SRMS can distribute resources dynamically, which can allocate more resources when the server load is heavy. With the service system management module, it is very easy to deploy service system by the template of SRMS. By monitoring the performance of the server, the server performance monitoring module can allocate sufficient resources for the server according to the operating conditions.At last, this paper has deployed application examples in SRMS and made a stress testing of these application examples. The stress testing result shows that SRMS can determine the server load conditions and allocate resources dynamically according to the conditions, which is capable of enhancing the high concurrency and resource utilization of campus information system capacity effectively.
