Air is an indispensable part for the survival of mankind.The air quality determines the wellbeing and development of human beings.The air pollution has severely harmed our health.During the time of the third information revolution,the Internet of Things has been a heated area which attracted a lot of attention.The Internet of Things is connected to every aspect of our life.The wireless sensor network is one of the important parts of the technology of Internet of Things.It is a brand new technology aiming to access and process information.How to solve existing problems by the new technology,monitor real-time air quality quickly and conveniently,and forecast and trace the source of air pollution are of great importance to environment protection and the improvement of our living quality.Wireless sensor network has advantages of easy deployment,scalability,high reliability,and low cost.In this paper,the air quality monitoring platform is implemented based on wireless sensor networks to achieve data collection,sending,and receiving.And finally,data is saved in the database to realize real-time data monitoring,analysising,and displaying.The main contents are as following:Firstly,the research background and development of air quality monitoring in China and abroad is summarized in this paper.And the direction and objective of research is proposed.The proposed work includes the implement of wireless sensor network and the development of air quality monitoring website.Secondly,many normal wireless communication technologies are investigated and analysised.The low-power ZigBee technology is selected to achieve wireless sensor network and communication.And theory and application of ZigBee technology is descripted briefly.Thirdly,the board-level hardware of the wireless sensor network is designed and implemented.It includs three kinds of nodes: coordinator,router,and terminal device.The terminal device with multi-sensor,has features of system-level low power consumption,high precision measurement of outdoor air concentration,solar charging,long-term working outdoor,and so on.Fourthly,the Z-Stack protocol stack is utilized to achieve self-organizing network,data acquisition,and wireless transceiver in wireless sensor network.The data is sent by the coordinator to the PC through the serial port,which is processed and saved to the database finally.Air quality monitoring site is built based on the LAMP architecture to enable the data to display in real time.Finally,the entire air quality monitoring platform is tested,including wireless sensor network function testing,data accuracy testing,power consumption testing,and data displaying testing.The air quality monitoring platform is verified for functionality and reliability.
