A Study On Community Libraries Service In Fuzhou Downtown Area

In modern society,the urban residents mostly live in communities.The community is becoming larger and larger during the urbanization process.The common share of a community is not only about the same geographical area and the basic infrastructure,but now also about the public cultural service.There have been 12 community libraries and several book circulation stations since the first community library was set up in 2013.As early as in the beginning of the 21st century,there was discussion about the development of community library in China.In some big cities in China,the community library construction started earlier and has created a few successful examples.And in western countries,the community library appeared even earlier in order to satisfy people's increasing needs for the community culture,and gradually changed into a center combining reading,further education,entertainment and daily life service.It has become a part of modern life style to go to the community library.In Fuzhou urban area,the community library construction has made its achievement.However,there still are many aspects that need improving,for the local community libraries have not owned any other functions than reading service yet.Thus this essay uses New Public Service Theory as reference and uses investigation of the readers and librarians as basic facts to summarize the achievement and shortcomings of Fuzhou urban community library construction,as well as to list out practical suggestions for its further improvement.
