As the economy and infrastructure developed rapidly,flood and waterlogging control became more and more urgent.In order to prevent flooding and alleviate drought,China has invested a lot of manpower and financial resources for river regulation.By strengthen the construction of water conservancy projects and built flood control systems for the seven main rivers,our ability to withstand floods and droughts has been greatly enhanced.Hydrological information acquisition has become the most important way to prevent flood damages.This information is the basis for hydrological controlling department to forecast and to make critical decisions.Hydrological telemetry system based on modern information technology may enhance the efficiency and accuracy of hydrologic information collection and transmission.GPRS based hydrological monitoring gateway can effectively solve the difficulties in wire layout due to source distribution.By building a large hydrological monitoring network using GPRS,it will be more convenient for hydrological monitoring department to get real-time observation and release flash warning.This paper started with analysis and study of the characteristics of GPRS technology,especially focused on the structure and working principles of GPRS network.As a backup communication method,Beidou system is selected in order to ensure the communication in remote areas.In this case,this paper also studied the structure and characteristics of Beidou satellite navigation system.Based on the components and microcomputer selected,a hydrological telemetry terminal and its controlling software have been designed.The hydrological telemetry terminal was design to be installed at torrent monitoring sites.The hydrological telemetry terminal gathered hydrological information from multiple sensors,sent massages to host computer through GPRS or Beidou,and receive simple commands from the host computer.The host computer includes a flash flood warning software.This software can display and store real-time water level,temperature and precipitation information gathered from the telemetry terminal.Never the less,through the display and controlling software,the host computer can make adjustments to parameters and send commends to the hydrological telemetry terminal.Altogether,Hydrological Monitoring Gateway allows hydrological controlling department to have a convenient and on time flash flood warning system.
