The Research Of Media Representation Of Local Metropolis Daily On Environmental Issues

In recent years,a series of environmental problems such as haze,water pollution have attracted wide social attention.As the “outposts” of society,mass media constructs environmental issues and presents them to audiences by environmental news,the situation of media representation on environmental issues influences the audiences' cognition for current environmental situation to a degree.As the most influential metropolis daily in Henan province,how does Dahe Daily represent the environmental issues? Are there any deficiencies in its media representation on environmental issues? What is the reason caused these deficiencies? How to improve them? This thesis will focus on these questions.There are seven sections in this thesis.The first section elaborates the research background and significance about this thesis,puts forward the core research questions and methods after reviews the previous research results.The second section is the research design,including sample,construction of category and reliability analysis.The third section is the research about sources of environmental issues in Dahe Daily.The study found that environmental issues represented on Dahe Daily mainly depended on its own journalist,but it also republished news from authoritative central media such as CCTV or Xinhua News Agency.Besides,it was so fond of informations from governments or officers that its news source was becoming more and more simple.In the fourth section thesis mainly focuses on the content of environmental issues reported by Dahe Daily.The study found that environmental issues in Dahe Daily were given priority to with urban areas in Henan province,which had distinctive regional features.The theme of air environmental pollution and governance had priority to be reported by Dahe Daily,which made environmental issues have sharp timeliness.What's more,study found that it was distinguishing when Dahe Daily represented different target of news-report.The fifth section is mainly about the analysis of journalistic reporting style on environmental issues in Dahe Daily.The study found that most reports of environmental issues had been placed on the front page,and the proportion of them showed a u-shaped shift in four years.Editors paid attention to use text and graphics when environmental issues were presented,but usage rate of graphics was getting lower and lower.Besides,the significant degree of environmental issues' headline was getting lower,which reduced visual appeal of environmental issues.From the aspect of report types,messages predominated in the all the reports when environmental issues were represented by Dahe Daily.In addition,the tendency of reports on environmental issues shifted negativity to positivity,reducing the risk of environmental issues.In the sixth section,this thesis analyzes the deficiencies of environmental reports in Dahe Daily and the reasons caused them and proposes improvements.There were three main deficiencies in environmental reports of Dahe Daily: the voice of different social groups was distributed unfairly,rural environmental problems were neglected to some degree,too much environmental issues were reported positively causing supervision weak.Study thought requirement for authority,commercialization of news production,journalists and editors short of the specialized knowledge were the reasons caused above deficiencies.So Dahe Daily could improvement its environmental reports from three main aspect: promote public participation by interactive reports,pay much attention to rural environmental problems,enhance the professionalism of its journalists and editors on environmental reports.The seventh section is the summary of thesis.Different from previous researches that focused on environmental reports of central media or local party press,this thesis studied metropolis daily,which means its object of study was innovative.What's more,this thesis analyzed headlines and graphics of environmental reports from editing in journalism,which was innovative in research perspective.How metropolis daily do well in environmental reports,play good role in supervision and promote its audiences actively take part in local ecological civilization construction is the significance of this thesis.
