For modern radar,solid source radar in particular,increasing the pulse duration of transmitting signal could increase its operating range because of the lower peak power of transmitter.However,as a result the signal bandwidth is reduced and so is the range resolution of radar.To achieve the balance between operating range and range resolution,pulse compression techniques have been proposed and obtained widely research and application,which means that radar could guarantee its operating range via emitting large pulse duration signal modified with large bandwidth signal,and improve its range resolution by matched filtering of the signal during the reception which could get small pulse duration signal.There are many kinds of signal waveform of pulse compression processing,such as phase modulation signals,nonlinear frequency modulation signal and linear frequency modulation signal.Own to the advantages of simple production and less-sensitive Doppler effect,linear frequency modulation has been greatly employed in radar.In the early studies and applications,pulse compression processing was used in analog devices.With the development of DSP technology,pulse compression processing converts from analog to digital domain..According to previous literature research,FPGA developers should develop FFT algorithm and convolution algorithm module on their own to realize pulse compression processing in the frequency domain and time domain by FPGA,which means that the software developers should be equipped with professional FPGA programming accomplishment.Given this,in this paper we present a method that using the FIR IP core of XILINX company to realize pulse compression processing,and details the specific steps of this method by an example.This method simplify the program structure,reduce the threshold of programming and improve the reliability of the system.The developers with the FPGA entry level could design program.In this thesis,the following subjects are involved:(1)General situation of radar development is described in brief,and the advantages of using FPGA for pulse compression processing is indicted;(2)The principle and implementation method of pulse compression of linear frequency modulation signal is introduced,which includes a brief introduction of linear frequency modulation signal,the working principle of pulse compression of LFM signal,implement method of pulse compression and MATLAB simulation;(3)The composition of the hardware system,the principle of chips selection and the design of the internal module of FPGA is recommended;(4)The development of software system is introduced in detail,including the implement method of DDC,the usage of FIR IP core,the construction and implementation of pulse compression module;(5)The system experiment is proceeding,which is consist of the debugging platform establishing,debugging test process,and the test results obtained;(6)To summarize the full text,put forward the insufficiency,and the improvement direction of the next step work.
