Tucao Phenomenon Analysis

“Tucao” phenomenon is an important kind of network subcultures which emerging in recent years. It mainly shows that netizens vent their grievances and express their views about various hot issues of social, public events,public figures and other things of our lives in Weibo, We Chat, Tieba and barrage video as the main platforms. Its languages are usually ironic,humorous, entertaining and popular to understand easily. Tucao has been a very popular network expression in this day and age.The development of network technology provides the technical support and platforms for people to express their mood which can not to vent in real life,promoting the generation of Tucao. China is in the transition period, which is full of contradictions, problems, and people need to release their pressures and vent frustrations. Therefore, the Tucao in network is a good choice.I tried to reveal completely and systematically the phenomenon of Tucao from dual vision angles of Culture and Communication, including what Tucao is,why the phenomenon of Tucao appears and the social significance of “Tucao culture” through the case analysis and text analysis methods.First, I traced the historical context of Tucao, which comes from Japan ACG culture, introduced in the mainland from Taiwan, and then it has been generalized used. Almost anything and anyone can become the object of Tucao. People can use Tucao to express any mood, which eventually forming a unique network Tucao subculture.Second, I analyzed the characteristic, subject, object, form and platform of Tucao.Tucao has the characteristics of passivity, deconstructionism,entertaining, popularity, etc. The main body of the Tucao is the Internet users,divided into the professional and the public for Tucao. With the generalized use of Tucao, anything and anybody may become the object of Tucao. The main platforms of Tucao are Weibo, We Chat, Tieba and barrage video in the means of words, expression package, audio and video.In this paper, I analyzed the causes of Tucao under the Culture and Communication perspective.From the Culture perspective,I used the subculture resistance theory of Birmingham School to explain the Tucao“resistant”. After the resistance and established style, it is natural to appear identity and establish subculture group. Under the Communication perspective,Netizens in the group are easily influenced by groups’ suggestion and infection,and the spread by entertaining way trend more and more serious, as Neil postman said “all the public discourse in the social reality increasingly appeared in the form of entertainment, and become a kind of cultural spirit.”Network transmission media environment and technology provide a communication platform for Tucao, thus netizens can be arbitrary to decode and encode the information.Finally, I summarized the values and reflection of “Tucao culture”. Tucao culture brings us happiness and generates economic benefits. But the Tucao sometimes include some foul contents, may form the network violence. So we should be considerate when decide to “Tucao” something or someone. On the one hand, Tucao phenomenon like many subculture in the process of development will be collected by mainstream culture. On the other hand, when adjusting the relationship between the Tucao culture and mainstream culture well, it will constantly produce new subculture, and maintain the meaning of their own subculture.
