The evolution of scholarly record, and all kinds of network digital services, new information discovery tools and information organizing mode and scholarly communication tools are appearing, scholarly communication environment is unconsciously influenced. University library, as one of the important scholarly communication organization, traditional service role of information collection, organization, transmission and storage has not completely adapt to the current scholarly communication environment, also been difficult to meet the multiple and complex scientific research needs of users. So, the role transition and innovation of university library has become an important trend and direction to be keeping its energy.Currently, lots of abroad university library have been set up scholarly communication center or provide scholarly communication services, and domestic university library do, but not formed system. The problems which its role definition and role function is unclear are obvious. Thus, research on repositioning the role of domestic university library under dynamic scholarly communication environment has strategic significance.Under the background, this research constructs "frame diagram of role definition of university library in scholarly communication environment", which as the end result of this study. Specifically, this research will apply role theory to full study, and firstly based on the literature review, define the relevant concepts this research involves, meanwhile combing the evolution process of scholarly communication and the impact to university library, then propose the scholarly communication system structure. Secondly, this paper conclude 7 roles by analyzing the self-role cognition status of university library deeply by literature analysis and site investigation respectively. Thirdly, this study adopts questionnaire and interview survey, and chooses some graduates, teachers, librarians and people in other work areas who have research experiences as the investigation object. The data is collected from six aspects:scholarly discovery, scholarly research, scholarly publishing, scholarly evaluation, scholarly archiving, scholarly dissemination. By investigation and analysis, this paper will state different role cognitions and expectations from different stakeholders. Next, this research will compare and analyze the role cognition differences, role expectation differences, and the differences between role cognition and role expectation from different stakeholders, and on the basis of calculated total cognitive and total expected role of university library, this paper will establish role definition standard, reposition the university library role in scholarly communication environment, and construct frame diagram of role definition. Finally, the paper concludes the completion of the study and proposes further research prospects.
