Research On The Education Features Of Children's Periodicals During The Republic Of China

With the rise of the May Fourth New Culture Movement,several thousand years of feudal education thoughts in China began to shake.As a large number of intellectuals advocated individual character liberation and the personality independence,education began to attach great importance to the children's education and promote children-oriented view.Under the background of such education, on the premise of children's periodicals during the period of the Republic of China,this paper takes the magazine Children's World as the research subject which started its publication in 1922.The paper meticulously combs the development history,the founding background and the education features.The paper uses the literature method and historical method,hoping to carry on the comprehensive and systematic study of the education characteristic of Children's world, to be used for reference in the founding of contemporarychildren's journal.This article is divided into four parts:Chapter one: The Development History of children's periodicals during the period of the Republic of China.In this paper, the development history of children's periodicals can be divided into four stages:the enlightenment of the modern children's journal(from 1874 to 1895),the localization of children's periodicals during the period of the Republic of China(from 1896 to 1918),the development of children's periodicals during the period of the Republic of China(from 1919 to 1937),the hardships of children's periodicals during the period of the Republic of China(from 1937 to 1949).Chapter two:The Founding Background of Children's World.During the period of New culture movement, the thought was liberated and Dewey's pragmatism education thought affected the Chinese children's education,changing the view of the children's education and rising one education ideological trend on children-oriented. Children's literature in this period also gained development,and the publication of children's newspaper was booming.The premise for the children's world magazine founded provided a wonderful opportunity.Chapter three:The characteristics of Children's World.The characteristics includes five aspects of content, the first is themission of the journal is to change along with the social situation and the objective of publication of Children's World had experienced three changes:develop children's interest and habit in an automatical way in the preliminary stage,adapt to the meet all children's needs in the mid-term,instill correct knowledge for the purpose in the later period.It shifted from paying attention to the literature to focusing on scientific spirit and it becomes the comprehensive children's journal with the priority to the knowledge content step by step.The second is the Content of Children's World.Journal involves many areas,including the main five aspects: the field of life education, moral education, history education, science education and scientific education, hoping to cultivate children's all-round development.The third is the Form of the content of Children's World.Journal genre contains a variety of forms, mainly divided into fiction, poetry, drama, gout, news. These forms with easy-to-understand texts and graphics,conforming to the development of children's psychology and nature, are deeply appreciated and welcomed by the children.The forth is the Authors of Children's World. The authors of Children's World were constituted by three kinds of authors: editors of Children's World,members of The Literary Research Association andteachers.They are not only the authors of the journal, but also the guiders of the Chinese modern children's literature. From the perspective of children,they put the children's life as a subject matter, which is deeply appreciated by the children.The fifth is the Characteristics of Activities of Children's World.The readers of Children's World are mainly about children with middle and high grades in primary school.In order to attract the children's reading interest, the journal launched a series of activities,including the campaign,mail,communications activities.These activities were strengthened the interaction with the little readers and deepened the readers of the magazine feelings.Chapter four:The revelation and enlightenment of Children's World.Children's world magazine is the first children's literature publication founded especifically for children.As a model of children's publication of the Republic of China, there is a lot to today's children learn from: periodical should always carry out the education concept of children standard and have education value and keep the Chinese traditional culture essence.
