From the current English teaching in primary schools in our country,we find that the application of English songs,rhymes and chants has become a common teaching activity.With strong and rich rhythms as well as cultural connotation and charms,children's English songs,rhymes and chants have become an important language content and indispensable teaching method in primary English classroom.They also play very important roles in lingusitic,affective and psychological,cognitive,cultural and social aspects.However,how is the present teaching situation of this teaching method? Do teachers of English have any difficulties in the implementation,and what are the difficulties? Whether this teaching method can promote the language teaching and improve the effect? These questions are worthy of our considerations.Thus,the investigation and analysis of this teaching method has realistic significance and necessity.This research firstly applies the method of literature review home and abroad to generalize the related research,then it employs the questionnaires which are for statistical analysis with SPSS 19.0 and interviews to study the present teaching situation of English songs,rhymes and chants in Ganzhou city with the primary school students and teachers of grade 3 to 6 as the subjects.The study shows that the overall condition is unsatisfactory.The main problems relating to the teachers of English are the lack of attention to English songs,rhymes and chants teaching,their unawareness of the professional development and their insufficient knowlege of relevant theories.Some other reasons that lead to this condition are the restricts and limitations of the inadequate periods,the current evaluation system and the textbook compiling.According to the survey results,some suggestions have been given to teachers,schools,research members and the textbook compiling.As the researcher's time,energy and ability are limited,this paper still has some imperfections.The researcher will further this study and try to avoid these shortages in the future research.
