Nowadays because of lacking of the language environment, many primary students in our country show low interests in English study, and the study effect is not ideal. "Interest is the best teacher", so how to stimulate students'enthusiasm and the initiative for study has become the focal point which people have paid much attention to. Children's English songs have simple melody, happy and jumping rhythm, and they also have simple, easy words. All these elements make English songs loved by children deeply. So using songs in primary English classrooms may enable children to obtain the esthetic joyfulness in the joyful melody, to promote the experience of the emotion, to accept the artistic infection and to strengthen the memory.There are three parts of theoretical basis in this thesis:One is the multiple intelligences, the second one is the second language acquisition, and the third one is the neurology theory.On these three parts of theoretical basis, the author explains the possibility and benefit of using music, songs and chants in primary English teaching. The study of this issue at home and abroad shows that music can help us explore the laws of language and improve the study efficiency of the language.The author thoroughly describes and explores the principles and specific methods of using music in primary English teaching. The author also designs a detailed teaching plan. In the plan the author shows how to use English songs to teach the vocabulary. This also proves the possibility of this subject.The author also does a teaching experiment in her two classes for a whole semester. One class uses musical methods in classroom teaching and the other class uses the traditional teaching method which means the teacher talks most of the time in the class. After a semester, the learning result of the experimental class is much better than the contrastive class. The children in the experimental class are more interested in learning English and more initiative in their study.The study of this subject shows that teaching English songs matches well with the primary students'characteristic of their better memory in image and emotion. Teaching English songs can also easily stimulate children's interest and imagination. Teachers may obtain better teaching achievements under the unconscious condition. So music and songs are essential in primary English teaching. Rhymes and chants are equally important. Music, songs and chants can surely be the beneficial teaching method in children's English classroom.
