English songs and rhymes with its strong and rich rhythms and rhyme, culturalconnotation and charming contained in it has become an important language content andindispensable teaching means in the primary schools. It has played an important role inlanguage learning, emotion and psychology and cognition. But how is the current situation ofthis teaching means? Whether the teacher has any difficulty in the implementation? What arethe difficulties? Can this teaching means promote the teaching and heighten the effect? Thesequestions are worthy of our consideration. So, the status quo investigation and analysis of thisteaching means has realistic significance and necessity.This research employed questionnaires, non-participatory observation and interview tostudy the current situation of English songs and rhymes teaching in Meizhou with primaryschool students and teachers of grade3-6as the subjects. The study found that the overallcondition is not favourite. The main problems concerning teachers are the lack of teachersattention to English songs and rhymes teaching, their unawareness of the professionaldevelopment and their lack of relevant theories. Some other reasons include the restrict andlimitations of the lack of periods, the current evaluation system and the teaching materialcompilation. According to the survey results, some suggestions has also been given toteachers, school and research members.As the author’s time, energy and ability are limited, the paper still has someimperfections. I will further this study and hope to avoid these shortages in the followingresearch.
