As is well known, vocabulary plays an important role in English teaching, and it has a direct impact on the ability of using language. Especially for the pupils in primary schools, the numbers of the English words directly affects the pupils' English proficiency. But they have not learned the phonetics, so it's very difficult for them to remember words.The purpose of this thesis is how to help students memorize the vocabulary effectively and then to stimulate their interest in learning English.Through the questionnaires survey and the interview records of the students and the teachers in Anqiu Experimental Primary School, this thesis is to find the problems and how to solve these problems in English words teaching.The main problems of the teachers in English words teaching are: the need-improving attitude of vocabulary teaching, mechanical and monotonous teaching words method, unimplement stratified teaching for students of different levels, the lack of guidance on students' metacognitive strategies, insufficient attention to students' emotional needs, short usage of teaching resources. The main problems of the pupils in English words teaching : some students' poor independent learning ability, recognizing words difficulty,words and sentence separation, Single word memory method, the poor use of the metacognitive strategies, Lack of language environment for skilled use of words.In view of the problems, this paper considers that the teachers and teaching methods are playing a decisive role in English word teaching in primary schools. There are eight aspects of countermeasures to solve the above problems:the importance of teachers' awareness of vocabulary teaching from the ideological awareness; rich and varied teaching word methods; to teach students effectively memorizing word method,;the implementation of the stratified teaching to students; hierarchical teaching, the word evaluation of the formative assessment,;guidance for students on metacognitive strategies;to meet the emotional needs of the students; to make full use of teaching resources.
