The Inheritance And Evolution Of Ordinary Village Residence

China's rural areas are ushering in a new round of construction climax.Ordinary villages which have not been included in the "traditional villages" and "historical and cultural town" are facing the plight of the loss of features.The traditions and characteristics of these villages mostly have not been paid enough attention and fully explored in the course of construction.A large number of traditional dwellings with regional characteristics have been abandoned or dismantled,while the new residence are copies of urban residence with no relevance of local features.The rural area is experiencing a period of constructive destruction as never before.Ordinary villages' renewal is different from the traditional one,which is not a static presentation of history,but a dynamic process which is the result of the changes of economy,society,culture and other factors.While residence in ordinary villages never get enough attention.Jinggangshan is located in the mountains of southwest Jiangxi,where the south Hakka culture and the central local culture converge.Different culture's integration formed the unique local residence forms.This paper is based on extensive research on ordinary villages in Jinggangshan area,and the research is divided into three parts: Firstly,to summarize the Hakka and local traditional residence types,and to analyze their spatial structure and cultural connotation through the calculation of space syntax;Secondly,to analyze the changes of residence,including the evolution process of traditional residence and the appearance of new residence;Finally,to discuss the principles and strategies of the ordinary village residence's renewal.The analysis of tradition provides the support for the heritage of local traditional characteristic,and the analysis of evolution helps us understand the present situation of traditional culture and the villagers' new living demands.These two parts are combined together to provide the basis for the local and surrounding areas' rural construction.Residence,as the material carrier of culture,is the key to inherit regional culture;as the material carrier of villager's lives,is the key to improve villagers' living condition.This paper focuses on ordinary villages rather traditional ones,on residence's dynamic changes and subsequent development rather than static description.In this way,this paper hopes to provide reference for the studies of other ordinary villages.
