| Baishe Village in Sanyuan is the largest and most concentrated earth construction carriage. Its cave dwellings have taken an important role in Chinese architecture history. However the quantity of cave dwellings decreases year by year as a result of modern construction. The ancient treasure’s existence is facing serious challenge. Former researches focus mainly on the reconstruction of cave dwelling while the landscape of the ancient villages has been commonly neglected. This research is mainly focusing on the investigation of the construction and landscape of Baishe Village-a typical historical tribe landscape in Taiyuan district, Weibei. It discusses the construction, decor, custom of caves and the reason of the declination of the ancient village, providing valuable archive to restore the ancient villages’ styles and features, also making an important step towards the reconstruction and renovation of the traditional villages of Weibei..There is a lot of experience in protecting earth construction architectures, with methods of science, aesthetics and even statistics in village protection. Modernized China has paid attention to the renovation and inheritance of traditional civilian residence settlement, to a level of study on history, social form, geography, anthropology, national custom, environment, landscape and ecology. It is followed through the steps of ‘history analysis-data sorting-on spot investigation-comparison-cross disciplinary study’, with thorough interviews, photograph, measurement. This study conducted systematical and fore seeing research on the village’s protection and renovation and induces the process of the evolution of Baishe village in both aspects of tangible and intangible cultural heritage, coming up with suggestions on the thorough reconstruction of Baishe village.The research shows that on the protection and reconstruction of ancient villages, the renovation of cave dwelling should be combined with the whole protection of the ancient village settlement. The restore of historical heritage should be in the same pace with the discovery of intangible cultural heritage. The local features should be on the same level of the development of tourism industry. In this way, we could not only develop the industry but also do some solid good to the local villagers, for them to be inspired to protect the village, so as to improve a constant and scientific development of the Baishe village, earning its name of Chinese historical and traditional ancient village. |
