With the rapid economic growth after the reform and opening-up policy, the urbanization level in China has been enhanced unceasingly, and the status of the historic districts in the modern cities has been changed. On the one hand,as the previous economic, cultural or political center of the city, the historic districts, with the growth of cities, witnessed the city’s glory and contained a large number of historical heritage and memory; On the other hand, the run-down streets landscape, the disturbing present situation of the construction quality, and the imperfect ancillary facility of life in the historic districts make it difficult to adapt to the pace of the high-speed development in the urban area and to meet the needs of people’s life. However,in the early stages of transforming the historic districts in China, due to the lack of theoretical support, protection awareness and practical experience, the government just destroyed and built blindly which caused the irreversible damage to the traditional context and the historical heritage of the historic districts. Therefore,it is valuable to explore and analyze the protection and renovation pattern of the historic districts and to sum up the experience of protecting and updating the historic districts which accords with the Chinese situation.Hangzhou is one of the eight ancient capitals in China,is the first batch of national historical and cultural cities, and has a long history and prosperous culture.Zhongshan Road historic district has a special significance to the ancient city of Hangzhou, which once was the "Imperial Street" after the Southern Song Dynasty established its capital in Lin An.After years of history,it has always existed as the economic, cultural and political center of Hangzhou. The historical style and features of Zhongshan Road is one of the historic districts which are protected relatively intact and with the highest value among the old blocks in Hangzhou.Besides, the middle part of Zhongshan Road began to reform its capital in the period of the Republic of China, which was the epitome of the historical changes of Hangzhou. This topic takes the historic districts in Zhongshan Road,Hangzhou,as the research object, and adopts the methods such as case analysis, literature study, field survey, induction and deduction and so on to analyze the historical development, the value of the old situation, and the protecting and renovating strategy and characteristics of the historic districts on Zhongshan Road, and to sum up the experience and value to protect and renovate organically the historic districts on Zhongshan Road. The thesis mainly includes four parts, and the content is as follows:The first part is from Chapter One to Chapter Two.The introduction puts forward the research background, illustrates the research purpose and significance, discusses the research content and methods, constructs the research framework, concludes the research overview about the historic districts at home and abroad, and lists some related cases about the historic districts at home and abroad. In Chapter Two,the basic definition, the features, the significance and the existing problems about the historic districts will be analyzed. The second part is Chapter Three, which introduces the historical development of the Hangzhou, and the status of Zhongshan Road in the developing process, and it also analyzes the value of the historical heritage of the physical form and the traditional context of the immaterial form on Zhongshan Road. The third part is from Chapter Four to Chapter Five.Chapter Four focuses on the introduction of the theoretical foundation, the general rules and the specific strategies of protecting and renovating organically the historic districts on Zhongshan Road.In Chapter Five, the features and value of protecting and renovating organically the historic districts on Zhongshan Road will be analyzed. The fourth part is the conclusion, which summarizes the experience of protecting and organically renovating the historic districts on Zhongshan Road,Hangzhou, and the significance of this topic.Meanwhile, the future research outlook about this topic is also put forward. |
