Along with the rapid development of automobile industry, Vehicle Information System(VIS) provides more and more services and functions, which makes it become an integral part of cars. On the car market, different manufacturers currently install own-designed VIS. Although the interface and operation of these VIS are different, the core functions are the same, including collection of vehicle operation and environment information, navigation, driver-assistance and so on. Some of systems also have network feature, providing internet access services.VIS of special vehicles which operate in a complex and poor environment conditions is different from that of civilian vehicles. It requires high security and reliability. So VIS of civilian vehicles cannot meet the requirements of special vehicles. Based on these reasons, this thesis firstly analyses the features which special vehicles need. Analytical approach is to classify requirements and then dissect one by one. After all of analysis, in addition to the discussing of security and reliability requirements, a new VIS composed of four computers which have different functions is proposed.The original vehicle information system is the core part of the operation control machine. As much as possible to retain the original vehicle information system, operation control machine increases the network connection module, making it can be connected with the vehicle area network. Its main function is the collection of relevant information of vehicle operation and controlling the vehicle.Information management machine is responsible for data storage. Information storing on the special vehicles are very import. This thesis proposes a reliable storage solution ensure that when the vehicles are destroyed, operation and fault information can also be collected for analyzing and improving. In addition, sensitive data are encrypted and cipher keys are well managed, which is to guarantee that once the vehicle has been gotten by others, the data cannot be decrypted.Security network communication machine and public network communication machine are in charge of network accessing for the entire system. The first one connects with a special secure network that others terminals cannot connect with authorized. Vehicle can exchange information with others and control center through this machine. The second one connects with public network. Because of its unsafe, vehicle just can access some insensitivity information on network and communicate non-confidential information with others by this machine. In order to ensure internal information synchronization, Operation control machine, information management machine and secure network communication machine connect with each other via an internal LAN. In order to ensure the safety of data of VIS, public network communication machine is physical isolation with the other three machines. So when it is intruded, the hacker can just reach this step, and connot go further into the other three machines.These four machines perform their respective duties, and constitute the entire special vehicle information system. Base on this scheme, this thesis designs man-machine interfaces for four machines. And using interface programming technology, network-based programming technology and database technology, a prototype system development for special vehicle system is finished. The test results show that this system meet the requirements.
