With the unstoppable process of economic globalization and China’s market opening,our retail trade industry is facing fierce competition as well as great challenges andopportunities. Our retail enterprises may not gain enough competitive advantage withoutthe help of competitive intelligence. The study on competitive intelligence of our retailenterprises will not only help the development of our competitive intelligence researchframework, but also guide the implementation of competitive intelligence for our retailenterprises.Based on theories and methodologies from both Information Science andManagement, this article systematically and fully answers to the question about how toimplement competitive intelligence in our retail enterprises. This article combines thetheories of Information Science and business process of retail trade industry and studies thebasic concept and methodologies of competitive intelligence for our retail enterprises fromthree aspects: competitive environment intelligence, competitor intelligence andcompetitive intelligence policies. Based on the theoretical studies, the article performed acase study on Suning, to prove the feasibility of competitive intelligence work for our retailenterprises.
