Water quality problems are important environmental issues which related to people’s livelihood. With the rapid development of intelligent terminals, making use of the mobile terminal to achieve real-time and convenient quality monitoring and early warning is particularly important. Therefore, it has important practical value that the development of water quality monitoring applications based on mobile terminals.According to the needs of water quality monitoring and early warning, a water quality monitoring application based on Android smart phone platform is designed and realized by using B/S network architecture mode, Web services and database access technology. The water quality monitoring application has many functional moduel, including water quality data and biological data monitoring module, historical water quality data management module,GIS maps, and water quality warning module.In the development process of application, water quality monitoring mobile terminal enables the access and scheduling SQL Server database with Web Service technology.ADO.NET technology is used to achieve connectivity and access to the database. The data obtained is displayed in a Web page. With HTTP protocol and XML data format combined with SOAP protocol, the handsets can communicate with Web service. In the process of data communication, mobile terminals request Web service data. Then the Web server will make a response to Android handsets and return XML formatted data to mobile client. After receiving the data, mobile client will analyze the data in order for users to view. Meanwhile, in order to view the data efficiently, SQLite database can also be called to store data. Through the above data interactive way, water quality monitoring mobile terminal software can realize the data acquisition and view functions.Test results show that the application software has these features: easy and stableoperation, good data interactivity. It meets the function demands and has important significance to the water quality monitoring and warning.
