A development direction to orchard intelligent monitoring technology is that using the IoT to detect the environmental elements, situation of the fruit tree and surrounding environment real-timely, delivering and processing related data and images timely, controlling agricultural facilities in farmland automatically, reaching the aim of unattended orchard. Also, it is meaningfully that the monitoring system can increase the production efficiency and economic benefits of the orchard.This paper study the present situation and development trend of the orchard monitoring technology where in inland and abroad deeply, aiming at the presented monitoring system’s problems that cannot transfer the images fleetly and the wireless communication in field unsteadily, proposing a project of designing of monitoring system of orchard based on Wi-Fi Direct. The project use the Wi-Fi Direct, 433 MHz communication and embedded system to build a new orchard monitoring system, realizing the function that monitoring the images and environmental elements.The design of the hardware of the system has two parts, one of it is the environment monitoring node, which consists of the single-chip microcomputer named STC12LE5A16S2, 433 MHz communication module named SI4432, temperature and humidity sensor named SHT71 and DC solenoid valve. The other one is the image monitoring node, which consists of the microcontroller named STM32F103RET6 which based on ARM, Wi-Fi Direct module named MR09, camera module named OV2640.The design of the software of the system include the μC/OS-III operating system, TCP/IP communication protocol stack, driver program of the camera and Wi-Fi Direct module, communication program of the image monitoring node. They are all transplanted into the microcontroller based on ARM, building the multithreading developmental platform. In the environmental elements monitoring node system, the paper has designed the program of soil temperature and humidity acquisition, driver program of the 433 MHz communication module, data transmission program and solenoid valve controlling program. In data transmission program, this paper use a new way to transfer data, which is a data chain transmission way, using the data of the letter node connect to the tail of the front one, improving the communication efficiency. Last but not least, the paper has completed the upper computer program which communicating between upper computer and lower computer.Finishing the test of all the hardware and software of the orchard monitoring system, the result of the test shows that the orchard monitoring system which the paper has designed is stable when it is working, and the communication efficiency is higher than before. So the orchard monitoring system has reached the predetermined designed aim. The futher work is, transferring the image and data to the cloud platform, to facilitate the farmers enjoying the convenient and economical from the orchard montoring system.
