As the transmission medium with most efficiency and cost-effect in the mass communications, newspapers are faltering in today’s mobile Internet era. The fixed news production and transmission modes in the newspaper industry formed since the mid 1990 s seem to be incompatible with the target audience’s reading practice in the new era. Therefore, media convergence becomes the inevitable trend for the future development of newspapers. The majority of domestic newspaper offices have proactively commenced their exploration of such convergence, among which, some have already made preliminary success. Under the background that methods of contents production and transmission in newspapers have changed much during the convergence process, both of the convergence method and the convergence extent of each medium in the industry have been differentiated due to factors like newspaper nature, marketization extent and regional differences. Both the industry and the academic circle hope to remold the operational norms for newspaper production at an era of media convergence.Based on it, the paper takes Changsha Evening Newspaper as a case to study and explore the changes of newspaper production process at era of media convergence. In addition, it focuses on discussing the change course of three most critical steps in the course of news production chain: interview, editing and distribution, under the environment of media convergence and proposes suggestions for newspaper production to respond to those changes. It can be found after observation, interviewing, etc., that as for normal news production, the media convergence mainly plays the role in: 1 further liberalizing interviewing information sources and interviewing methods; 2 enabling network language to appear in news text and shallow reading to lead the interviewing and editing process during the interviewing, writing and editing of news; 3 increasingly highlighting the importance of news distribution and replacing the concept of "content-first" with the concept of "channel-first".Based on the above analysis, this paper puts forward suggestions about path reconstruction for current news production of Changsha Evening Newspaper to further adapt to the environment of media convergence: on one hand, training versatile journalists and compound editors; on the other hand, from the perspective ofsystem and mechanism, establishing central editorial office and seizing the emerging Internet platform channels to make content distribution not lagged. As municipal newspapers are generally in a difficult situation, this study may have a universal significance for transformational change of Chinese newspaper market.
