With the development of communication technology and the bandwidth demand growth, optical fiber communication becomes a new technology trend. The optical fiber can provide higher bandwidth and faster speed. The biggest advantage of 10 G EPON system is that it can smoothly upgrade from existing 1G EPON system to 10 G EPON system. So it can enhance the bandwidth by using the existing copper or fiber optic network deployment. The smooth upgrade can maximum protect the investment of operators. This paper analyzed the existing status of optical network, and after that completed the 10 G EPON OLT symmetrically optical transceiver module’s design. 10 G EPON OLT symmetrically photoelectric transceiver module is one of the core modules of 10 G EPON system, and it plays an important role in 10 G EPON system.The main research of this paper is as follows:1. Investigate both the domestic and foreign existing situation of optical communication industry. Deeply study the importance of 10 G EPON symmetrically OLT module in the communication system.2. Study the working theory of 10 G EPON symmetrically OLT module and the key parameters. The main agreements for reference are IEEE Std802.3av-2009 and INF-8077 i.3. Design and develop the 10 G EPON symmetrically OLT module. The main parts are APD boost circuit, 10G/1G signal receiving circuit, 1G laser driver circuit, 10 G signal laser driver circuit, and TEC control circuit.4. Test the module at different operation temperature. Mainly focus on the average of power, emission off organs average optical power, extinction ratio, and so on. Record the test result of above parameter, do the analysis and release the final report.5. Summarize this study, point out the weakness and direction for future study.
