Optical fiber communication is a communication mode of the optical fiber as the transmission medium, and it has become the cornerstone of modern communication. With the continuous growth of the large capacity of data represented by IP business and increasingly complex information network, the requirements for optoelectronic devices have gone up. As the core of optoelectronic devices, the optical transceiver modules and optical fiber communication network development are inextricably linked that press for the intelligence function of the optical transceiver module. In this context, intelligent, miniaturized, integrated optical transceiver module emerged, and it provided a low-cost optical module operating parameters monitoring tools that could simplify the maintenance of the optical communication system.On the basis of studying SFF-8472agreement, circuit implementation for digital diagnostic monitoring function of the small form pluggable (SFP) optical transceiver module and virtual instrument software architecture (VISA), the thesis designed and implemented a practical test platform for SFP optical module. The system hardware of the test platform for SFP optical module consists of SFP optical module test motherboard and communication board. The test motherboard provides the normal operation peripheral circuit required by SFP optical modules, the main role of the communication board is to transform PC serial command into I2C command format. The communication board adopts micro control unit to achieve digital diagnostic monitoring parameters by communicating with optical module by I2C interface. I2C communication protocol is realized by software simulation, thus reducing system cost. The host computer PC displays the digital diagnostic part of real-time monitoring parameters which transmit by single-chip via RS232.In this paper, a piece of automated testing system PC software of optical modules for test platform was designed additionally. PC software can measure the parameters of optical modules automatically by controlling programmable test instruments through VISA. All relevant monitoring data can be displayed on the host computer PC, and the software can analyze the real-time monitoring data automatically by combining with corresponding model parameters of the optical module storing in the server database.The pending metering optical module was tested by the test platform combining PC testing software. Test results indicate that the test platform for optical module can measure the main parameters of the optical module automatically which can improve the accuracy and efficiency of the test of optical module and meet the design requirements.
