With the rapid development of sensor technology and network technology, applications of using WSN are increasingly applied to people’s daily life and production, coal mine safety monitoring system is one of the typical application. Compared with the traditional wired monitoring system, wireless monitoring system using WSN has many advantages. This technology not only can reduce costs, but also has good scalability. Faced with such complex coal mine environment, the routing protocol in wireless sensor network must have good anti-interference, balanced wireless nodes energy and do as much as possible to extend the network life cycle. According to the routing algorithm involved in coal mine safety monitoring system, related research works are carried out in this paper.Firstly, we studied the design principles of routing protocols for wireless sensor networks and characteristics of the mine environment; meanwhile, we analyzed the CTP algorithm performance in this place. Based on the above, this paper proposed CTP algorithm’s defects in the situation.Secondly, based on the study to the mine environment, this paper proposed O-ICTP algorithm, which is a hybrid routing algorithm. It means that the O-ICTP algorithm will run ICTP algorithm during normal circumstances. When some certain conditions are met, it will switch to the opportunistic routing algorithm. The ICTP algorithm mainly improves the performance of CTP algorithm in the aspect of node equilibrium, while opportunistic routing algorithm can effectively improve the algorithm’s anti-jamming. In this way, the ICTP algorithm combines the O-ICTP algorithm with the opportunistic routing algorithm.Lastly, we gave a simulation experiment of O-ICTP algorithm on NS2. It shows that the new algorithm has the advantages of two algorithms, which not only has good anti-interference performance, but also has a good performance in the face of network congestion and energy consumption.
