Coal mine as an important part of energy consumption in our country has an irreplaceable role in economic construction at present. However, because the early warning system of the coal mine monitoring is not reasonable, coal mine safety accidents occurs frequently, which makes national regulatory departments attach great importance to the safety production of coal mining enterprises.In the 1980s, we began to introduce the foreign mine safety monitoring system, used to monitor underground gas quantity, the ventilation rate and so on, but this kind of monitoring system had complicated structure and poor extensibility. And this kind of system was not suitable for system maintenance and upgrade. With the development of wireless communication technology and embedded technology, traditional monitoring system can not meet the needs of mining companies to the mine safety monitoring. This paper makes following research that embedded wireless streaming media technology based on the background in the coal mine safety monitoring system.The paper introduces the coal mine safety monitoring system involved in video compression coding and streaming media technology firstly. Then it introduces the the selection of the embedded hardware platform, system development process, embedded system transplantation. The paper proposes that overall design scheme of coal mine safety monitoring system based on the embedded ARM11. The scheme adopts the S3C6410 microprocessor as the core of the hardware monitoring platform, combining with related peripherals to realize the video capturing and compression coding with V4L2 technology and MFC hardware encoder. And the system combines the WiFi wireless transmission modular based on the RTP/RTCP protocol to finish the video streaming media transmission and solve the complex wiring problems of mine monitoring system at present.Secondly, this paper introduces the design of monitoring system client software. The client of monitoring system is based on Android system, setting up the development environment and designing user interface of client software to realize surveillance video decoding and playing by transplating, tailoring and optimizing the FFmpeg codec library.Finally, the monitoring system test has been finished. The test of system server includes the performance of system video capturing, video compressed encoding and streaming media transmission. And the client of monitoring system uses the Android mobile phone to test the fundamental functions of video monitoring system. The results show that mobile video surveillance system can provide smooth and clear monitoring screen, which can be applied to coal mine safety monitoring.
