The development of science and technology promotes the expanding of industrial production scale, rapid update of production equipment, and progress in production technology. However, production environment is also becoming more and more complex, so higher requirements for production monitoring and control technology are proposed. Traditional monitoring and controlling system has been unable to adapt to the modern industrial production environment, because it is limited by wiring, maintenance, and scalability. Based on this situation, more advanced industrial monitoring and control system is required to satisfy the requirement of modern industrial production. Wireless sensor network is the main trend of the development of modern communication, it already has a certain application foundation, and become more advanced and maturein with the continuous efforts of researchers, therefore, it is the best choice to replace the wired network.ZigBee is a newly emerging wireless network technology, with the characteristics of low speed, low cost, low power consumption, high network capacity, and so on. In addition, ZigBee is able to organize the network, and the ability to recover the network. Therefore, it is very suitable for Wireless Sensor Networks. In the paper, as a solution to the monitoring and controlling of the modern industrial production, an Industrial video monitoring system was developed, by using the combination of ZigBee technology and video data transmission.In this paper, according to industrial production environment, the ZigBee technology, video compression technology, and the principle of data communication is investigated, and an industrial video monitoring system based on ZigBee protocol was developed. Firstly, the development of wireless data transmission technology and the status of industrial monitoring and control technology was summarised, and the requirements of the development of modern industry was clarified; Secondly, the ZigBee technology and video compression algorithm was introduced, including the structure of ZigBee protocol stack and network topology, and ZigBee wireless sensor network for video compression data transmission requirements; Thirdly, a video monitoring system was designed and developed, including the overall structure of the system design, the type and choice of ZigBee chip, terminal node structure design, video processing module, node software design, and data communications encoding design; Finally, the hardware and software of the video monitoring system were debugged and tested, and the effectiveness and feasibility of this study is verified by the test results of the system network communication distance and quality.
