With the improvement of people’s living standard, the average life expectancy is extending. As a result, the number of the elder and the left-behind old man is also on the rise. Because of the growth of the age, the elder often experience memory loss and forget the dose or time for medication. How to ensure that the elder can receive timely treatment when they are in an emergency situation is a problem worth studying and solving. The appearance of the medical care system has provided some solutions. However the traditional medical care system works through various cables connected to the body of patient. Its volume is so large that it limits the action of patients which could easily cause emotion instability in patients and lead to worsening of disease and prolonging of recovery time.In order to solve these shortcomings of the traditional medical care system, a kind of wireless medical monitoring system based on the ZigBee technology is proposed in this thesis. The system uses the wireless data transmission mode to realize functions of real-time patient’s physiological information monitoring, sending patient medication reminding messages and receiving distress signals. The system terminal has several advantages such as small volume, low power consumption and long service life. It can be fully integrated into the patient’s daily life. Especially, it could avoid bringing psychological pressure to the patients, therefore it’s convenient to observe real physical condition of the patients.The technology of ZigBee wireless communication and monitoring software development is mainly introduced in this thesis. In the first part, the research background and the significance are analyzed, and the domestic and international research status and development trend is elaborated. In the second part, the structure and working principle of general wireless medical monitoring system is studied, the whole structure of the system is designed and the working principles of microprocessor, physiologic information acquisition module and the medicine-taking reminding module of the child nodes is given. Thirdly, the network features and advantages of ZigBee wireless communication technology are analyzed in terms of system complexity, reliability, power consumption and cost. Based on the type of equipment, network topology and protocol research, the ZigBee network work flow in the system is decided. Through the comparison of the LabVIEW, C and C++development language, the VC++6.0development platform is identified, and the development of application program based on MFC and Windows multi thread technology is researched. Two communication protocol formats between the PC and the child node are also developed. Fourthly, the needs of host computer software management system are analyzed. Based on the functional requirements and non-functional requirements, software architecture is designed, and then the system event timing is designed, software function module is divided. By connecting to the database, the management of patient information is realized. Finally the total design of software management system is completed. Fifthly, based on the analysis of existing software test method, the system software test plan is made, including the PC software testing, wireless communication module testing and system integration testing. The testing results are analyzed and summarized in the end.The validation of the system is done and the test results shows that this system can work normally and it can realize the functions like managing account information, patient information, patient’s condition information and equipment information that needed. The monitoring software basically achieves established functions and meets the requirements of the analysis of requirements.
