Cutter is known as ―the tooth‖ of the industry, this proves cutter has important position in industrial manufacturing industry. Our country already has the biggest scale of industrial export in the world, but we have significant gaps compared to the developed country in the field of cutter, especially complex cutter design and production, many types of cutters are depended on import, which does not fit the premier power of the industrial manufacturing, and the expensive cutters cost a lot of money every year, and we are manipulated by others in the key areas frequently. Causes the main reason of this kind of situation, our country does not have enough research of the basic theory for cutter design, and our cutter design method lags behind others comparatively.The main purpose of this project is to develop tool software which can assist cutter designers design cutter, and hope to improve the existed domestic cutter design methods. This software does not rely on Pro/E platform and can combine with the database system, which can provide convenience for designers, and then improves accuracy and efficiency for cutter design, and reduces cost of the cutter design and manufacture.The main work of this paper:① Introduced the domestic and overseas current situation of the cutter design software and auxiliary tool, point out the existing problems of the cutter design and manufacture in china, research growing trend of cutter trade in our country, and then arrive at the importance and necessity for this paper.② Introduced the key technology for developing the milling cutter digitization platform, the point is Pro/E and the secondary development tool-Pro/Toolkit, and also introduce the necessary My SQL database and MFC combining with Pro/Toolkit technology to develop a platform independent of Pro/E.③ Focusing on ball-end mill, introduced theoretical basis for complex cutter design, which will contribute to comprehend cutter design concept and flow.④ Marking a more detailed requirement for the system, provided use case diagram and literal statement for the intensives use case, which makes the requirement become very clean. And also design the database for this system, and provide E-R diagram for the relevant part of cutter design.⑤ Achieved this platform with MFC technology, presented the ultimate result of the intensives parts of this system, we test this system and present the test result finally.
