CNN is one of the most influential news media in USA, it has an important position in the construction of the right of discourse in the news of the world competition. It has long been known as “objective, fair and true”, and boasted that it“represents the conscience of America”, however, to study its nature carefully, it is only a “mouthpiece” of the American Government.This thesis takes mainly “manufacturing consent” system as theoretical basis, using qualitative research, critical discourse analysis, content analysis, text analysis and the case analysis, combined the external conditions of news production with the internal analysis of news text, will study the discourse strategy on the major emergent political events, “report about the Tiananmen violent terrorist attack”, in CNN. First of all, to discusses discourse, news discourse, the characteristics of news discourse and the way media acquires news discourse hegemony. Secondly, to analyze Chomsky’s international political ideas and the “manufacturing consent”theory, and to explain its six kinds of news control mechanism: the scale of mass media ownership, interests orientation and distribution, advertising, access to news, media criticism, anti-Communist philosophy, dichotomy and propaganda; and analyze the reason why “Xinjiang independence” separatist forces become“a valuable victims”. At the same time, to point out that the United States government and the American mainstream media’s bias against China. Again, analyzing CNN’s discourse strategies on the report of Tiananmen Violent Terrorist Attack,report title and content, and pointing out the deep essence hidden behind the reporting materials screening, sources and news words from critical discourse analysis perspective, so as to fully understand the essence of the American mainstream media “demonized” China. Finally, further thinking on China’s news media how to promote discourse influence in the world.
