Microwave power module(MPM) plays a significant role in electronic warfare systems, which consists of integrated power modulator, microwave solid state drive amplifier module(SSA) and traveling wave tube amplifier(TWT). The main role of SSA is to provide the required power and gain equalization for TWT.Gain Equalizer is the key component of SSA, which is mainly used to solve the uneven gain problem of traveling wave tube amplifier. The design specifications include maximum equalization value, equalized accuracy, minimal insertion loss and voltage standing wave ratio(VSWR).Based on the step-impedance resonance(SIR) unit and 1/4 wavelength open stub, an equalizer whose operating band is 6-18 GHz is designed in this dissertation. For the miniaturization of the equalizer, a novel notch unit which contains composite right/left-handed(CRLH) resonator and absorption resistor is proposed. The size of the equalizer based on proposed notch unit is greatly reduced when compared with the traditional one. In addition, this CRLH equalizer can also achieve high equalization while owning good VSWR, which can’t be realized by traditional equalizer. Due to the drawback of oversized matching circuit, “U” folded structure is presented in this paper and a folding type equalizer is designed to verify its feasibility. What’s more, further exploration is made on simplified composite right/left-handed(SCRLH) transmission line(TL). On this basis, SCRLH TL is applied to the matching circuit and an equalizer based on CRLH resonator and SCRLH TL is designed. The operating band of the equalizer is 0.8-2.2GHz and the results shows the size of matching circuit is significantly reduced. Finally a 6-18 GHz solid-state drive module is developed and test results meet the project’s target, which verifies the usefulness of the equalizer.
