In morden time, as information increases as exploding, data traffic has become the main traffic of the communication network, which promotes the trend of packetilizing traffic and it’s carrying.Under the circurmstance of large-scale application for PTN and OTN, many problem occurs in joint-networking of PTN and OTN, such as back-to-back networking and the pressure of expansion on P router made by packet forwarding. So the trade union of communication proposed a new network named POTN which should be an organic integration of PTN and OTN. POTN can offer unified manegement and grooming for different layer traffics such as packet layer, TDM layer, and lamda layer. In order to gain a smooth transition to POTN from current network, network operators need a scientific planning software which can give suggestion for their network constuction. This dissertation focus on network planning based on such multi-layer network and discribes the designment of POTN planning software system.First, this dissertation introduces the backgound of POTN-related technology and analyses the main application scene and multi-layer grooming situation in POTN, then intoduces the general framework of our planning software system, key technology used in software implemention and detail of database design.After that,this dissertation introduces design details and main process of each function module of our software system in oder. In traffic-create module, this dissertation shows the model design of trafffic which can support different kinds of traffic from different network layer. In scene-planning module, this dissertation introduces the main process of traffic distribution and proposes an algorithm of wavelength assignment which can be applied in wavelength division multiplexing network with wavelength converter. This algorithm minimizes wavelength convert count and considers the continuity of surplus wavelengths. Simulation module and analysation module are designed for simple breakdown simulation and network analysation.In analysatioin module, this dissertation proposes a model to estimate end to end delay of packet layer traffic based on queueing theory.In the last chapter, this dissertation give a detailed demonstration of POTN multi-layer network planning software system using practical engineering projects, these projects show that this software system can do a planning and simulation for POTN with different layer traffics.
