For the reason of data service traffic explosive rise, OTN’s packetization would be a certain trend. POTN (Packet enhanced Optical Transmission Network) come as the main technology development direction of the next generation optical transmission network. This topic will be grouped enhanced optical relative technical frame, key technology, especially the new enhanced optical transmission network technology joint network.POTN technology are described in this paper combined with developing POTN equipment, including differences between traditional OTN/PTN equipment and POTN, as well as the possible technical bottlenecks of combined network. At last we discuss how to solve them in two application sences of MPLS-TP/OTN and Ethernet/OTN.Research shows that POTN in different applications and network deployment scenarios, can be flexibly added and cut packet functions, such as unity based exchange architecture, by increasing or decreasing different switching technology of interface/circuit board to adjust TDM (ODUk/SDH) capacity, the flexible configuration greatly expand the POTN application scenarios, make it have broad market space and technical advantage in all levels of network applications. On the basis of this, we explore a method of combined network in a complicated application scenario with traditional optical transmission network equipment, and made a more in-depth discussion about three aspects as multi-layer multi-domain network management, protection and network mode and efficient network.
