With the continuous development of industrialization level in our country, all sorts of sewage was discharged, which lead to water pollution more and more serious. Therefore, our country strengthened the control and defensed of water pollution, and added more water quality monitoring stations in many valleys. In order to ensure real-timing and high accuracy of water quality monitoring, monitoring parameters and field devices should increase, which require on the system scalability and communication function, but currently used monitoring system can hardly meet these requirements. With the continuous development of FPGA technology, a new way is provided to improve the performance of the water station monitoring system.Based on the analysis of water station monitoring system in the past, this paper proposes a scheme for water station monitoring system based on FPGA. The overall structure of the system is divided into modules, and each module is designed in great detail. Using the special hardware structure and rich internal resources of FPGA, can improve the realtime and extensibility of system, thus shortening the development cycle of the system.Communication between the controller and instruments analysis has adopted the Modbus protocol. The protocol has been divided into several modules, specifically including the baud rate generator module, receiving module, sending module and CRC check module through the analysis of the protocol and the application of FPGA modular design method. The function design and temporal simulation module has been completed with the help of Verilog HDL language. The simulation results have proved that the design met the demands of the Modbus protocol communication. According to the requirements of the system communication interface, the Nios II processor was set by utilizing the SOPC Builder. By using GPRS technology the remote communication function of the system has been carried out, and the module configuration and software design have also been completed. In the end, thanks to the Visual Basic, the remote data management center software has been exploited, which includes design of the network communication function control and software interface. The system scheme brings a new way for the research of water station monitoring technology. And it also has certain value in the field of industrial communication.
