| My hometown is "Bayi Village", a Village in eastern China. I take her as the research site to investigate the historical development process that media such as broadcasting, televisions and mobile phones entered rural area. This essay takes " Uncle Liu", a Villager as principal line and uses a way of telling stories to describe the development of people and media, discussing how Villagers started to contact new types of media and how did they use them in the previously isolated community. Through studying changes and development of this traditional society in this process, this essay explores and analyzes the changes of thoughts and actions of people, the main body. Researches find that as medium forms are becoming diversified with social development, human participation are still in the passive position in transmissions under the prosperous image of media. The theoretical paradigm of "participatory communication" are still too ideal idealized in rural practices. The exploration and questioning of "vanishing or banishing" is the theme of subject study:"Vanishing" means the vanishing of people’s traditional isolated and non-flowing psychological features. With the entry of modern media, whether have Villagers gained imaginations of the outside world? Whether is the ability to empathize increasing? I find that, under the influence of social structure, differences are huge among individuals in terms of such issues. It is common that individuals are far away from political life and they use unreasonable features when dealing with media; finally leading to low degree of social attention, namely the so called "banishing". In the process from isolation to opening in Bayi Village, people, as individuals have changed in the autogenesis. In the context of vanishing and banishing, the freedom and randomness of rural society were presented incisively and vividly in villages. This essay uses the study method of materialization and take Bayi Village as the investigation site, gaining its materials through interviews and participation in observations. This essay uses the way of telling stories to express the changes of media such as broadcasting, televisions and mobile phones in villages and to investigate changes of psychological situation and action capability of people from the aspect of media and social interactive influences, finally reaching a conclusion that during the changes of media life, people gradually get the ability of empathizing and the non-flowing psychological mode is changing. Through media, imaginations of the outside world can be gained. But due to the limit of social structure, the ability of empathizing could not be transferred into power of social reform at last, failing to make every villager participate in social management and public life. Media have become tools by which different people get what they want. |
